Not only was there much fraternizing of the Confederate and Union pickets, but considerable trading was carried on in the way of small articles, the Confederates always having tobacco, which they were willing to trade for anything-coffee, sugar, needles, thread, or anything that was for their own personal use. Many changes took place at this time in the personnel of the Fifth Corps, and hence we give, prior to an account of further operations, the organization as it stood June 30, 1864. Commander.
