Washington, D.C.

The subcommittee met, pursuant to notice, at 10:05 a.m., in room

Mr. MELCHER. The Subcommittee on Public Lands will come to

order.

This morning we are meeting to consider H.R. 3507 and H.R. 3864,

to designate Flat Tops Wilderness in Routt and White River Na-
tional Forests in the State of Colorado.

Our first witness this morning is Senator Floyd K. Haskell, from

Colorado.

Senator, we are delighted to have you here this morning.

Senator HASKELL. Thank you very much, Mr. Chairman.

Mr. MELCHER. I am very much indebted to you for conducting the
hearings a couple of weeks ago in Colorado on this and the Eagles
Nest proposals. We hope that we can look on your public hearing held
there for guidance for this particular subcommittee.

Senator HASKELL. I appreciate the opportunity, Mr. Chairman, to
be here and I appreciate your carrying out what we discussed last
fall, that this bill would have priority in your subcommittee.
