General index includes also names of merged companies. An appendix gives recent information about both railroads and public utilities received too late for insertion in the other manuals.

Analytical index in vol. 5 groups articles by larger subjects than those used in main alphabet. Editor is professor of history of education at Teachers college, Columbia university.
