The most distinguished honor of the

FRANKLIN
INSTITUTE,

The Elliott Cresson Gold Medal,

Awarded to Jas. B. Hammond,

Inventor of the

HAMMOND TYPEWRITER.

In the Department of Applied Science, it is no mere boast to say that America stands unquestionably at the head. Among the many institutions in this country whose business it is to foster invention, the Franklin Institute, of Philadelphia, enjoys a universal recognition of pre-eminence. Its awards are justly considered as final and decisive.

The Elliott Cresson Gold Medal is the highest award in the gift of the Franklin Institute. The Committee on Science and the Arts has, in the past sixty years, examined and reported on 1,555 valuable inventions, but only 27 have received this medal.

After an exhaustive comparison of all prominent typewriters, extending over a period of nearly one year, the Elliott Cresson Gold Medal has been awarded to the Hammond Typewriter for

"Celerity and Certainty of Operation,

Perfection of Alignment and Great Durability,
No Limitation upon the Speed of the Operator, * **
Commend it as the Best Typewriting Machine * * *.
