The trip from New York to Boston is made

most attractive by making a portion of the jour SICK ROOMS in winter require

ney by water. Some of the water routes, however, necessitate the rounding of Point Judith, not an attractive spot in stormy weather, and this is avoided by the shorter water route of the Norwich line. In every feature the steamers of this line are modern and up to date, the accommodations are superior, and the service satisfactory in every respect. The writer speaks from personal experience.

PERTINENT FACTS.-The United States Dispensatory says that alum is a most valuable astringent and healing drug, but that its use is limited owing to its irritating properties. In Unguentine the irritating properties of alum are eliminated.

Professor H. W. Paige says ten grains of alum can only be used in an ounce of ointment; more will cause irritation. Unguentine contains more than thirty grains to the ounce.

Professors Tait, Sayre, Erichson, and others, state that extensive burns and lacerations always leave eschar tissue. Hundreds of testimonials prove that Unguentine heals such injuries without the slightest disfiguration.

There is not a surgical dressing, either wet or dry, on the market to-day that can equal Unguentine for general use, and there is no surgical dressing from which can be obtained as good and satisfactory results.

GERMANTOWN, MD., Feb. 16, 1896.-The Hall Capsule Co., Cincinnati, O.: Gentlemen: -I have received the Ruby capsules and shall use them instead of the white gelatine as they are less objectionable for many reasons; they are something new and their color very attractive. I consider them par-excellence for the administration of quinea. sulph. The Anderson vaginal capsule cannot be excelled.-Yours very truly, I. NEWTON SIMPERS, M. D.

PAIN AND REST IN DIPHTHERIA.-Rest is one of the sweetest words in our language, and in the management of no disease is this more true than in diphtheria. In keeping with the experience of Professor T. E. Murrell, ex-vice president of the American Medical Association, and Dr. Pollack of St. Louis, who have found antikamnia valuable as a reliever of the pain of nocturnal earache, it has also been found of great value as a sleep producer in these cases. Given in doses of two and a half to five grains every two to four hours, there is no depression nor have other than satisfactory results obtained.

To purify the air, a towel or cloth moistened with Platt's Chlorides should be frequently wafted about and then hung up in the room.

In the treatment of any neuroses of the larynx, coughs, bronchial affections, la grippe and its sequelæ, as well as chronic neuroses, clinical reports verify the value of codeine in combination with antikamnia, the therapeutical value of both being enhanced by combination.

STIMULANTS IN PNEUMONIA.-Jergensen, the great German clinician, in the chapter he contributed on pneumonia to Zeimsen's "Cyclopedia," did more than any other great teacher, probably, to impress the importance of employment of stimulants in the treatment of pneumonia. is very clear on this subject. He says the volume of the pulse must be kept good. If we neglect to do this we shall often lose our patients. He says that this is the thing to be done : We must not expect to have a rule for the giving of stimulants. The only rule is that the volume of the pulse must be kept good. If a small quantity often repeated does not effect this, when we must use larger quantities with still greater frequency. Whatever stimulant is employed must be given with great freedom, looking not at the quantity, but results. Professor Loomis thinks champagne is the best stimulant, and Dr. Doremus finds G. H. Mumm's Extra Dry superior to all other brands of champagne.

-Mellin's Food meets the requirements of baby life as well as any food before the profession. It is free from starch and cane sugar and is of the class of infant's foods known as Liebig foods, and doubtless the best exponent of the class. It is prepared with diluted fresh cows' milk. I have prescribed this food for nearly twenty years, not often with infants under three months of age, but very largely for infants above this age, and have found it a most reliable baby food; its use is a great deal less liable to be attended by derangement of the bowels than is the use of pure cows' milk alone. From "Diseases of Children," Charles E. Fisher, M. D.

-Wasting diseases are greatly modified by the use of Hydroleine, a pancreated emulsion of

cod liver oil obtained from fresh livers and so prepared that the unpleasantness of the oil is thoroughly disguised, rendering it palatable. Being pre-digested it is easily assimilated and well borne by weak and delicate stomachs. Hydroleine is valuable in convalescence of typhoid fever, pneumonia, and cholera infantum, and has received the indorsement of 98 per cent. of New York and Brooklyn hospitals. Sold by druggists.

SPRING
No. 1

DR. J. ALLISON HODGES, Professor of Anatomy, and Clinical Professor of Nervous and Mental Diseases, University College of Medicine, Richmond, Va.: "BUFFALO LITHIA WATER, Spring No. I, possesses decided nerve tonic and restorative properties, and is an efficient remedy in a wide range of Nervous Disorders. In 11 of the many cases of Nervous Indigestion and Neurasthenia in which I have prescribed it, it has proved highly beneficial."

DR. JOHN HERBERT CLAIBORNE, of Petersburg, Va., ex-President and Honorary Fellow Medical Society of Virginia: "The peculiar nerve tonic properties of the BUFFALO LITHIA WATER, Spring No. 1, give to it very remarkable recuperative power in cases of persons broken down by overwork or excess, or by tardy and imperfect convalescence."

DR. JOHN H. TUCKER, of Henderson, N. C., Member of the Medical Society of North Carolina, President of the North Carolina Medical Association: "The action of the BUFFALO LITHIA WATER, Spring No. I, is that of a decided nerve tonic. Nervous Dyspepsia, with its train of distressing symptoms, is promptly and permanently relieved by it."

DR. WM. 0. BASKERVILLE, Oxford, N. C. "BUFFALO LITHIA WATER, Spring No. I, is a powerful tonic to the Nervous System as well as to the blood. I have known it to produce magical effects in Nervous Prostration, resulting from overwork, prolonged mental strain, etc., and convalescents from adynamic diseases have been restored to health in a surprisingly short time, the water being a direct blood-producer, a valuable heart-tonic, and a physiological diuretic."

DR. GEORGE A. FOOTE, of Warrenton, N. C., ex-President of Medical Society of North Carolina:
(Spring No. I.) "As a remedy in cases of Nervous Exhaustion, Lassitude, etc., I know of nothing in the
