HE HAD PLANS ALL RIGHT

She was a lady visitor to the prison, kindly and well meaning, and as she chatted with a burglar who had been sentenced to six months' imprisonment she thought she detected signs of reform in him. "And now," she said, "have you any plans for the future on the expiration of your sentence?"

"Oh, yes, ma'am," he said hopefully. "I've got the plans of two banks and a post-office."

SISTERLY CONCERN

Governor Dunne, of Illinois, was reminiscent. "When I was a boy in school," he said," we always had a lecture every Friday afternoon. One Friday a geologist lectured about Niagara Falls, and told us that in the course of some two hundred thousand years they would have worn their way back to Erie, and that town would be left high and dry.

"Suddenly the lecture was interrupted by one of the girls in the class who began to sob hysterically.

"Why, Edith,' cried the teacher,' are you ill? What is the matter?'

"Oh,' wailed the girl, my sister lives

POWER OF PRAYER

A very nice and gentle minister accepted a call to a new church in a town where many of the members bred horses and sometimes raced them. A few weeks later he was asked to invite the prayers of the congregation for Lucy Grey. Willingly and gladly he did so for three Sundays. On the fourth one of the deacons told the minister he need not do it any more.

"Why," asked the good man, with an anxious look, "is she dead?"

"Oh, no," said the deacon;" she's won the steeplechase."
