The other prescriptions were intended for any one who cared to get them filled. It is very necessary that you should know whether your case is one of organic disease of the heart, with weakened valves, or whether it is simply sympathetic derangement of the heart, caused by the stomach. As a rule, organic disease of the heart does not cause so much disturbance and despondent feelings as sympathetic derangements. But if yours is really a case of organic disease you ought to be under the care of some competent doctor, rather than to attempt to treat yourself. If you care to do so you may get the following prescription filled, which will be perfectly safe for you to use, and in case your heart trouble is caused from your stomach it will help you: Pulverized licorice root. ..1 drachm These should be thoroughly triturated together. Query 336: You seem well informed about nervous prostration with its many varied symptoms, and I would ask you about a prominent symptom of mine. Answer: 1ne symptoms of which you complain, drawing of the cords of the neck, numbness of the feet, etc., is a spinal symptom. It indicates slight spinal irritation, the result of a run-down nervous system. A sun bath for your spine is an excellent remedy. I think much better than electricity. It should be taken with the direct rays of the sun shining on the spine, at the same time some one else rubbing the back so as to give the whole spine a thorough massage. Which of the enclosed formulas is best for a man who has become weak and partially impotent?-E. B. H., Iowa. Answer: The two formulas which you send me are practically alike, so far as their operation in cases of impotency.
