Edwards Terry, Keeper of the Children's Home. The almshouse report for year ending September 30, 1899, shows receipts $21,577.43; disbursements, $20,048.60, leaving a balance of $1,528.83. The per capita cost per day of caring for the inmates was 5% cents, or 381⁄2 cents per week, chargeable to Huntington, $365.20; Babylon, $318.34; Islip, $304.86; Smithtown, $170.44; Brookhaven, $479.49; Riverhead, $195.20; Southampton, $258.94; Easthampton, $91.85; Southold, $184.03; Shelter Island, $80.08; Suffolk County, $1.380.56. Total, $3,828.99. The total cost of support at the almshouse, including all expenses, was 26 cents per day, or $1.82 per week.
