The utilization of the electric trolley railroads
was begun on August 8, 1894, over the Fifth Ave-
exchanged with Station "V" and seven suburban
nue and West End division of the Atlantic Ave-
nue Railroad to Coney Island, mails then being
offices. This service has since been extended over
the Third avenue line to Stations "C" and "N,"
over the Flatbush line to Station "F,"

PNEUMATIC TUBE SERVICE.

Three

On August 1st, 1898, ae system of pneumatic tube service was extended to Brooklyn, connecting the General Post Office with the New York Office, via Brooklyn Bridge. The distance is 1 2-3 miles, and time of transit is 3 minutes. dispatches of mail can be made each minute. The carriers containing the mail are 21 inches in length and 8 inches in diameter, and hold about 300 ordinary letters. The system has proven an entire success, and is in operation daily from 4 A. M. to 11 P. M.

MAILS BETWEEN BRANCH P. O. STATIONS. Mail matter deposited at a Branch P. O. Station (or in a street letter box within its district), and addressed for delivery within the district of another station, is made up and dispatched direct to the latter. These dispatches of local matter are made at short intervals throughout the day, malls being thus exchanged between the principal stations from 17 to 32 times on week days and from 3 to 6 times on Sundays.

SPECIAL DELIVERY MATTER.

Special Delivery matter is delivered from the General Post Office and all Branches, between the hours of 7.00 A. M. and 11.00 P. M. daily, including Sundays.

Sub-Stations.

The Sub-Stations of the New York Post Office are established in order to provide the residents in their vicinity with facilities for

1. The purchase of postage stamps, postal cards and stamped envelopes, in such quantities as may serve their immediate needs. Larger quantities may be purchased at any Branch Post Office.

2. The procuring of money orders payable in the United States. International money orders may be obtained at all Branch Post Office Stations. 3. The registration of letters addressed to Post Offices in the United States or in foreign countries, Packages of merchandise and any article other than letters should not be presented here for registration (except singly or in small quantities), but may be registered at the Branch Office.

Packages will be received (singly or in limited numbers only) for dispatch by Parcel Post to countries with which the United States has Parcel Post Conventions.
