This elaborate work contains the fruits of eight years of continual labour, devoted to a study of the topography of Jerusalem upon the spot. The author during that period was constantly occupied in excavating and removing the accumulated rubbish, in retracing the walls, in examining the monuments and ancient remains, and in penetrating and traversing the conduits and vaults. His labours throw much fresh light on the subject of Jewish Archæology.
