"Westminster Abbey stands alone amongst the buildings of the world. The charms of so facile a style, the method of so lucid a narrative, and the abundance of its authentic and hitherto unexplored materials, place this work amongst the most important productions of our time. During the course of his enquiries on the subject, the ex-Minister has had free access to many sources of information beyond the reach of every other biographer of Napoleon."-Times.

"This magnificent work, by the Ex-Prime Minister of France, deserves to be ranked as the FOREMOST HISTORICAL PRODUCTION OF THE AGE. M. Thiers, indeed, throws a fascination over every subject he touches. The translation is a perfect reflex of the original, and rendered with fidelity and spirit.”
