The German Uhlans, Dragoons, and Hussars compare well with their British foes, and with Cossack, Cuirassier, and Rough Rider. Here and there along the border, observers are looking to see that no armed force steps over the line into Holland. That this precaution is necessary, is proved by the fact that since the war, thousands of men have become involuntary guests of the nation. Thousands of Belgians fled to this shelter after the fall of Antwerp, and several German airship crews are among the interned forces. The sturdy lowlanders do not relish the necessity of policing their frontiers, but they relish still less any breach of their neutrality. |
