a So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; Cand unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation."

a Who needeth not daily, as those High Priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's for this he did once, when he offered up himself. For the law maketh men High Priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore, Heb. vii. 27, 28.

For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

*Or, they would have ceased to be of

one sacrifice for sins, for ever sat
down on the right hand of God, Heb.
x. 12. For he hath made him to be
sin for us, who knew no sin; that we
might be made the righteousness of
God in him, 2 Cor. v. 21. And walk

εὐδόκησας·

In burnt-offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

a To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt-offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he-goats. When ye come to appear before me, who bath required this at your hand, to tread my courts? Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me; the new-moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot away with; it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting. Your new-moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble unto me; I am weary to bear them, Isa. i. 11–14. Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, and bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt-offerings, with calves of a year old? Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my first-born for my transgression, the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul? Micah vi. 6, 7. Who is there even among you, that would shut the doors for nought? neither do ye kindle fire on mine altar for nought. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of
