It would have been a pleasure to accept all of the many cordial invitations that I have received during the year, to attend Department Conventions and other entertainments, had it been possible to do so; but she who assumes the obligations, and responsibilities of National Secretary has little time or strength to devote to anything else, and I have had to be content with attending the Conventions of my own Department and of the Department of Tennessee. It is with pleasure I commend the zeal and earnestness of the latter Department, though small in numbers. To Mrs. Harriette L. Reed, Past National Secretary, and Mrs. Lizabeth A. Turner, National Counselor, I am indebted for many courtesies and much kindly help. To the National Treasurer, Isabelle T. Bagley, I am unable to express my grateful appreciation of her uniform kindness. Always ready and willing to advise, throughout the year our relations have been most happy. Her work is commendable, exact and just to all. She has shown herself to be an efficient and capable Treasurer. It is impossible to estimate the helpfulness of E. B. Stillings, who is always ready to assist the new officers, and who has so often proven himself invaluable to the organization. To him I am grateful for all favors. To all officers, National and Department, who have, by their kind words and prompt and ready response to all requests, made my work a pleasure, I extend thanks. The many pleasant greetings that have come to me have warmed my heart and will be treasured in my memory. My dear President, when one short year ago you honored me by placing me at your right hand, thereby expressing your confidence in me, I realized the requirements of the position and only after careful consideration accepted the trust. My desire has been, in all things pertaining to my official duties, to have your approval. We have labored side by side and the friendship of years has grown stronger, cemented by our close relation. Your careful consideration and kindness are not forgotten, and to me it has been a happy year. If I have proven myself worthy and have merited approbation, I am content.
