THE PATENT SELF-OILERS

are made of glass strongly shell cased in brass, structed that the state of the oil can be seen at work is that of a loose wire, with one end restcup, down which the oil trickles only when run from FIFTEEN TO EIGHTEEN HUNTEN HUNDRED AT ONE FILLING. less troublesome than their operation. They from dust, and perfectly reliable in summer

as seen in the accompanying figure, and so cona glance. The principle upon which they ing on,the journal and the other entering the the engine is in motion. The Rod Cups will DRED MILES, and the Guides SEVEN TO Nothing can be simpler, more economical or are easily attached, readily kept in order, free and winter.

THE STEAM-CHEST LUBRICATORS

which are strongly made of
heavy copper composition as
may be seen by reference to the
cuts, are worked on a different
but not less reliable principle.
They are screwed on to the
steam chest, and by an apper-
ture in the shank and by means
of a perforated tube projecting
upwards inside the cup, a small
quantity of steam is introduced
at each stroke of the piston.
The heat and vapor melts the
tallow in the cup, and the drop-
pings from the condensation
process continually going on in
the upper part of the vessel,
displaces at intervals a small
quantity of oil, which is car-
ried through the perforated
tube before mentioned to the
steam chest below. Ry lower-
ing or raising this tube, more
or less condensing space is ob-

tined, and the feed of oil regulated faster or slower as may be desired. The perfect lubrication thus obtained beside giving the Engineer immediate control of the throttle-valve when requir ed, and commanding an easier pull, purifies the oil or tallow during the process above described from acids and other impurities, which eats away and corrodes the machinery to such an extent under the old method-Prevents the valve seats from being cut, so that little or no refacing is necessary, and reduces the wear and tear of all the working parts to the lowest possible point. These Cups RUN OVER ONE HUNDRED MILES WITH ONE FILLING. We manufacture Cups on the same principles for Shafting and all kinds of Engines and Machinery. HP
