WHAT'S WORTH WHILE!

It is worth while to sustain the patient in a definite way with the least effort on his part; to furnish essential elements of rational tissue-building in a readily-assimilated hydrocarbon of a type such as Angier's petroleum emulsion. The thoughtful physician is ever willing to take suggestions, and when the source of these suggestions is the bedside experience of competent overseers "whose hints show reason and allusions care," the practical importance of a remedy is established, independent of theory.

The trend of professional effort to-day is to create a soil inimical to the life of bacteria, to kill the bacteria and neutralize their toxins. Resulting from these factors, we have prostration, cachexia, and blood poisoning, and it is precisely for such conditions that Angier's petroleum emulsion is particularly applicable.

Angier's petroleum emulsion not only keeps the patient at par, but it also raises the processes of nutrition to their highest possible point, and in addition is of value. especially in pulmonary phthisis, chronic bronchitis, or other wasting diseases, as a true blood-maker and tissue-constructor. From the nature of its composition, it does not interfere with or crowd out other elements of nutrition, but it is cheerfully cooperative and is of distinct value as a demulcent expectorant.

Secondarily, Angier's petroleum emulsion is a powerful vasomotor stimulant. It seems

the paroxysmal coughing, so frequently associated with earlier stages of phthisis.

The clinical test is the certain test. When Angier's petroleum emulsion is used in the class of cases for which it is indicated, it cannot fail to demonstrate its remarkable efficiency as a reliever of cough,-a restorer of rest.

According to Loomis, the hypophosphites of lime and soda are serviceable where intestinal digestion is imperfect. Angier's petroleum emulsion is nutrition and rest combined. Where it has been prescribed a rapid gain in flesh and strength is invariably noted.

NEW SYNERGETIC MEDICATION.

The invaluable medical properties possessed by antikamnia, in its control over pain, and the power it possesses in the reduction of temperature are almost universally known and appreciated by physicians throughout the world.

The acme of perfection, however, has been reached in the new medication recently given this product in "antikamnia laxative tablets" and "antikamnia and quinine laxative tablets," the formula of each, being found on page 4 of our current issue.

In tablet form absolute accuracy of dose is insured, with maximum of activity, besides providing a most convenient form of administration. The profession will no doubt at once appreciate these unique and useful combinations, and accord to them the same degree of favor that has so long been extended to antikamnia.

DERANGEMENT OF THE LIVER AND DISEASE.

"Often we find a close relationship between the liver and certain diseases, so close, in fact, that there seems to be a dependence upon the liver to maintain perfect health. Nearly all febrile conditions are associated with hepatic disturbances, especially constipation or a jaundiced condition. This is seen in different forms of malaria, when the bowels are constipated, the digestion poor, the lymphatics engorged, skin yellowish, even true jaundice. In malarial troubles the administration of the sulphate of quinine often does not stop the ravages, simply because the alimentary canal is not in the condition to facilitate the absorption of quinine. The stomach and intestinal tract and liver are intimately connected with the nervous and circulatory systems, and one's being deranged affects the functions of the other. If there is a deficit of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, often found in malaria, the quinine, especially if administered in capsules, passes through the bowel with the fæces without being dissolved. In this condition, if the function of the liver can be stimulated there is an increase of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and the quinine is absorbed.
