shall content myself with briefly mentioning that I have treated more than 100 cases of chlorosis with Gude's pepto-mangan with as good results as those above described. The fact cannot be sufficiently emphasized that during the entire course of treatment the remedy did not have to be discontinued on a single occasion.

"Of much greater importance is the circumstances, however, that in numerous diseases of the blood occurring in connection with the lymphatic and blood-making organs I have derived excellent results from Gude's pepto-mangan.

"Decided amelioration in the leukæmic state, arrest of the process in severe cases for a long time, reduction of the glandular swellings, improvement in the relation between the red and white corpuscles, were noted by me in several cases under my care. "In my opinion, the value of ferruginous preparations in neurasthenia and hysteria. has received too little consideration. An

easily-absorbable ferruginous preparation is of incontestable benefit, and I believe that Gude's pepto-mangan occupies a prominent place in this connection.

"In conclusion, I would mention that I have obtained excellent results from Gude's pepto-mangan in two cases of severe malarial cachexia. In the one case the treatment occupied three weeks, in the other five

weeks. Both cases were cured."

IN AID OF THE OSMOTIC CURRENTS. Among the remedies designed to assist the emunctories in their normal work of expelling the wastes from the system and in conserving those metabolic processes that are carried forward constantly in all healthy bodies, there are few agents more effective and more valuable than sodium nitrate. While resembling in certain features the physiological action of potassium nitrate, and while in many respects of less toxic influence, it possesses at the same time even greater purgative properties, and has been advantageously employed as a palliative remedy in malarial dysentery.

In combination with certain of the phosphates it has proved of unusual value, the phosphatic element working synergistically in the proper conservation of physical energy. A very happy combination of these agents has been made in melachol, which has been presented to the profession in both tablet and liquid form, and which is fast finding a place as a sine qua non among the prescriptive remedies employed in cases where the normal osmosis is for any reason suspended or interfered with. In cases where the bile-ducts have become clogged through sluggish action of the liver, in impacted colon and intestinal paralysis, melachol will be found to render immediate and most gratifying service.

Although a man may meet with the misfortune of having both of his legs severed from his body, it does not necessarily imply that he will never be able to walk and get about as other persons do. A pair of artificial legs with rubber feet will restore him to his former capacity.

The engravings represent Mr. James McDonald, of Mamaroneck, New York, who wears two artificial legs. He is so ready on his artificial that many of his neighbors are not aware of the absence of his natural legs.

The latest information we have received from him informs

us that he can dance, ride a bicycle, and skate nearly as well as if he had his natural legs.

With the old methods of complicated ankle-joints, such perfection could not be obtained, but with Marks' patent rubber feet, he is practically restored.
