JNO. W. DAVIS,
The Sermons now presented to the public, have been selected from the late Mr. Thacher's manuscripts, with the permission of his relatives; and such corrections have been made as alone seemed necessary to fit them for the press. It is believed that they will form a valuable addition to our treasures of practical divinity. As discourses for family reading, they will not suffer, perhaps, in comparison with any which have been published.
In whatever light they may be regarded by the public, the Editor is confident that they will be gratefully received by those for whose particular instruction they were composed, and who still remember the looks, the tones, and the gestures with which they were accompanied, when pronounced by lips that have long been silent. By them, these Sermons will be cherished as a valuable memento of their departed friend.
