THE FAIRFIELD INHALER.

THE INHALER

An apparatus for generating, holding and conducting the vapor is the principal equipment needed, and should for obvious reasons answer to the following requirements:

1. An inhaler constructed in such a way as to volatalize Extracts, Tinctures and Oils, so that they may in vaporized form be conducted to the diseased parts.

2. A separate medicine cup so adjusted for immersion in a closed vessel of hot water without direct contact of the medicine with the water. 3. Detachment of parts to allow of scrupulous cleanliness.

4. An inhaler that can be used for the child, however young, and for the most feeble patient, as well as by stronger persons.

5. Simplicity, compactness and durability.

This apparatus is so arranged that the hot water and medicine are contained in separate cups, as shown in the illustration. The main or outer cup is for holding boiling water, and the smaller or immersion cup for the medicine. The medicine cup is adjusted in place by fitting over the straight tube which attaches to and projects through the center of the lid of the water cnp, where it connects with the breathing tube. In operating the steam is draw off the top of the outer cup down to the bottom of the medicinal cup and up through the tube to the patient.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE.

Detach the medicine or immersion cup (a) from the tube (b) in order to charge it with the desired medicine. dropping in no more than is needed for one service-from 4 to 12 drops. Now put into large or water cup (c) two ounces of water, either cold or hot, which may be readily heated by means of the alcohol lamp found in the bottom of the inhaler. The water must be heated to boiing heat to insure the vaporizing of any and all medicines used; this done will secure satisfactory treatment. On adjusting the medicine cup to the funnel-shaped metal tube, and the lid (d) in place over the water cup, the inhaler is ready for use. Place the nozzle of the inhaling tube (e) in the mouth and with the lips closed around it, inhale slowly through the tube, and exhale slowly through the nostrils. In cases of children too young to operate it the bulb inhaling tube (ƒ) may be used to force the vapor to the desired parts. With the use of the bulb tube (ƒ), and proper size and shape of nozzle, the vapor treatment can also be employed with great advantage in diseases of the ear, using for this the nasal tube, or nozzle, accompanying the flat mouthpiece.-Tube (ƒ).
