I herewith transmit the report of the President of Purdue University for the year ending June 30, 1900; also the annual condensed financial statements of the Secretary and Treasurer of the institution.

Until February 21st of the period reported upon, the administration of University affairs was under the direction of the late President Smart. At that time the institution was called mourn the loss of one who had been the main instrument in bringing it to its present high standing not only in our own State but throughout the country at large.

For the remainder of the academic year, the Board of Trustees placed the University in charge, as acting President, of Winthrop E. Stone, Ph. D., who was later appointed to the Presidency.

To the Board of Trustees, Purdue University:

Herewith is submitted the annual report of Purdue University for the year ending June 30, 1900, as required by the Act of Congress of July 2, 1862, under which the institution is organized.

Up to February twenty-first of the period reported upon, the University was under the direction of the late President James H. Smart. For the remainder of the year, the undersigned was in charge of affairs as acting President.

The report includes:

1. The organization of the Board of Trustees, the Instructional corps, and the Experiment Station.

2. A copy of the report of the President of the University to the Secretary of the Interior and the Secretary of Agriculture, as required by Act of Congress of August 30, 1890.

3. A report upon the attendance for the year.

4. A report upon the work of the institution for the year: (a) in instruction; (b) in research and publication; (c) in disseminating information.

5. A report upon the condition and needs of the School of Agriculture.

6. Recommendations as to the needs of the University.

7. A report on the work of the Farmers' Institutes.

8. Reports of the Treasurer and Secretary of the Board of Trustees.
