PREFACE TO THE THIRD EDITION.

A CONSCIENTIOUS attempt has been made to thoroughly revise every portion of this work both by additions to its subject-matter and by rearrangement wherever necessary to make it more acceptable to the student and practitioner. Such changes have been made as actual use of the book in class work has suggested. A number of new illustrations, an increased amount of tabular matter, and a series of diagrams that have proved of assistance in the solution of diagnostic problems have been added. A number of sections have been entirely rewritten.

The kindly acceptance of the work by the profession at large is a source of great gratification to the authors.
