Women's Relief Corps Home, Oxford

Resolved, That, subject to the approval of the Governor, the classification of positions in the non-competitive class in the Women's Relief Corps Home at Oxford be and hereby is amended by adding thereto the word watchman", it having been determined that competitive examination for said position is not practicable.

Resolved, That, subject to the approval of the Governor, the classification of positions in the exempt class, Departmental Service, be and hereby is amended by striking out the following obsolete and unfilled positions: In the office of the Attorney-General:

"One confidential clerk, New York City Bureau, provided, however, that this exemption shall not remain in force for a period longer than three months after the termination of the existing war with the German Empire and its allies ".

In the office of the Conservation Commission:

University of the State of New York

Resolved, That, subject to the approval of the Governor, the classification of positions in the non-competitive class in the University of the State of New York, State Department of Education, be and hereby is amended by striking out the words "two compositors ", and substituting in lieu thereof the words "three compositors", it having been determined that competitive examination for said position is not practicable.

District Attorney, Oneida County

Resolved, That the application of the District Attorney of Oneida County for classification as exempt of position of interpreter in Oneida County for the Supreme Court, Grand Jury, County Court and City Court of Rome, be and hereby is denied, as it is the judgment of the Commission that competitive examination for the position is practicable.

Resolved, That the application of County Clerk, Bronx County, for classification as exempt of an additional position of assistant special deputy clerk, be and hereby is denied, as at present informed the Commission is of the opinion that competitive examination for the position is practicable. County Judge, Bronx County

Resolved, That the application of County Judge Gibbs, Bronx County, requesting classification as exempt of position of confidential clerk (female), salary $1,800 a year, be and hereby is denied, as the Commission feels that competitive examination for the position is entirely practicable.

Resolved, That the application of the Public Service Commission for the First District, for transfer from the exempt to the competitive class of the position of chief gas engineer, be and hereby is denied.

Board of Child Welfare, Oneida County

Resolved, That the application of the Board of Child Welfare, Oneida County, for classification as exempt of position of assistant secretary, $1,000 a year, be and hereby is denied, and the Chief Examiner be and hereby is instructed to hold a special open competitive examination for said position and pending the establishment of eligible list to accept provisional appointment.

Resolved, That the application of the District Attorney of Queens County for transfer from competitive to exempt class of one position of chief clerk and one position of deputy assistant district attorney in his office, be and hereby is denied.

Charities and Corrections, Westchester County

Resolved, That the application of Deputy Commissioner of Charities and Corrections, Westchester County, for classification as non-competitive of position of record clerk, salary $600 a year and maintenance, be and hereby is denied, as the Commission is of the opinion that competitive examination for the position is practicable.

Herkimer County Tuberculosis Hospital

Resolved, That the application of Superintendent Hirst, Herkimer County Tuberculosis Hospital, for classification as non-competitive of the position of office assistant, salary $1,500 a year and maintenance, be and hereby is denied, as there is no indication that competitive examination for the place is not practicable.

Kings Park State Hospital

Resolved, That the application of Superintendent Garvin, Kings Park State Hospital, for classification in the non-competitive class of the position of photographer, be and hereby is denied, upon information that provisional appointment to a similar position had been made at the Binghamton State Hospital, and competitive examination was therefore contemplated. Surrogate, Onondaga County

Resolved, That the application of Surrogate Sadler, Onondaga County, requesting the position of cashier be classified in the exempt class, be and hereby is denied.

Resolved, That the application of Lincoln C. Andrews, Chief Executive Officer, Transit Commission, requesting that positions of six examiners or

appraisers for service in connection with valuation work be classified in the non-competitive class, be and hereby is denied.

Commissioner of Charities and Corrections, Westchester County

Resolved, That the application of Commissioner of Charities and Corrections, Westchester County, for classification in the non-competitive class of the positions of resident physician at $2,000 a year and maintenance; director of nurses $1,500-$2,400 a year, and pathologist $2,500 to $3,000 a year with maintenance, be and hereby is denied, as the Commission does not feel warranted under the Civil Service Law in placing positions of this character in the non-competitive class, and suggests open competitive examinations along such lines as would be approved by the Commission and open to non-residents.

Resolved, That the application of the Public Service Commission for transfer from the competitive to the exempt class of the positions of deputy chief engineer and deputy chief accountant, be and hereby is denied. (August 26, 1921.)

County Clerk, Nassau County

Resolved, That the application of County Clerk Cheshire, Nassau County, for classification as exempt of position of chief clerk, motor vehicle bureau, $2,500 a year, be and hereby is denied, as it is the judgment of the Commission that competitive examination for said position is entirely practicable. Resolved, That the application of the Research Director, Board of Estimate and Control, for classification as exempt of the position of stenographer to the research director, be and hereby is denied, as the Commission believes that it is practicable to fill the position with a competitive employee. Resolved, That the application of the State Hospital Commission for classification in the exempt class of the position of assistant secretary and treasurer be and hereby is denied, as it is believed to be practicable to fill the position by examination.

Resolved, That the application of the Commissioner of Farms and Markets Pyrke, relative to classification as exempt of position of traffic expert, salary

County Clerk, Erie County

Resolved, That the application of County Clerk Meahl, Erie County, relative to classification as competitive of the position of deputy, held by Edward Oberkircher, be and hereby is denied, as it was the judgment of the Commission that in view of the opinion of the Attorney-General regarding classification of the position of deputy, it could not grant the request. (October 5, 1921.)

Hospital for Crippled and Deformed Children, West Haverstraw

Resolved, That the application of Superintendent Nutt, Hospital for Crippled and Deformed Children, West Haverstraw, for classification as noncompetitive of the position of head nurse at said institution, be and hereby is denied, as positions of this character are generally competitive and it is believed practicable to fill the place as the result of competitive examination. (October 5, 1921.)

Charities and Corrections, Westchester County

Resolved, That the application of Deputy Commissioner Brown, department of charities and corrections, Westchester County, for classification as non-competitive of the position of assistant director of nurses, be and hereby is denied, as it is the judgment of the Commission that it is practicable to fill this place as the result of competitive examination.
