In attempting, then, to answer this broad question as to whether there be any aim and meaning in life, I wish, first, to treat of it from the standpoint of the world as a whole, as to whether we can see any traces of a divine aim and meaning, as to whether we have any right to speak of God as having a plan, a purpose, in human life. Then I shall come to the more personal question, when I have disposed of that.
