Ilis actions are praiseworthy, but his speeches at banquets indicate his great need of a strict adherence to cold water when he dines out.

Medica! men endorse FOOT'S EXERCISER as the best method of strengthening the muscles, invigorating the body, and stimulating the whole system into healthful activity. It makes one eat better, feel better, work better, sleep better, and produces that glorious sense of power and vigour which physical health and strength alone can give. It occupies little space, is suitable for both sexes, and adjustable to every degree of strength from the athlete to the invalid.

G.W. FIELD, Esq., Surge in Dentist, 23, Park Street, W., writes: "I attribute my good health largely to the sys emat e use of Foot's Exerciser every morning." Any reader wishing to maintain good health can obtain free, by post, interesting particulars, ant a valable treatise by Dr. Edson, by addressingJ. R. FOOT & SON, 62 & 63, New Bond Street, LONDON, W.

CHEAP EDITION NOW READY.

"IF CHRIST CAME TO CHICAGO."

By W. T. STEAD.

(120th Thousand.)

Extract from the Preface to the British Edition:Seventy thousand copies of this volume were orderel in America before a single copy was issued from the press in Chicago. Owing to my refusal to allow any but Union labour to be employel in producing the book, the binders were at first unable to cope with the demand. But as I did not think that If Christ came to Chicago" He would go to sweat-shops for His printing, the public hal to wait until the Union binderies overtook the demand.

The opportune refusal of the American News Company and the Union News Company to handle the book until the Black List was cut out, somewhat relieved the pressure. As they possess au absolute monopoly of sale on all the railways in the United States, I cut out the list. I did this the more really because the interest in the Black List was so strictly local to Chicago that I did not think it would be worth while repro lucing it in the Br.tish elition.

The difficulty of mee ing the American demand renders it impossible to procure copies from hicag, in time to supply the English market. I have, therefore, reprinted it on this side. This volume, written in Chicago, printed in Edinboro', and published in London, is typical of the unity of the Englishspeaking world.-W. T. STEAD.

From the Sydney Bulletin.] [October 20, 1894. "LECTURERS ARE TO BE SENT TO AUSTRALIA IN THE INTERESTS OF IMPERIAL FEDERATION."-CABLE.

J. BULL (lecturing on the British Lion): "In conclusion, I would say that he is the most amiable, the most sagacious animal in the world, and is very fond of children, and if any little boy in the audience would like to step up and put his head in the lion's mouth he will be given the opportunity. He may get swallowed, but, in that case it will be a comfort to know that he has become an integral part and parcel of the boundless and glorious British Empire."
