3. How happy are our ears,

That hear this joyful sound:
Which kings and prophets waited for,
And sought, but never found.
4. How blesséd are our eyes,

That see this heavenly light!
Prophets and kings desired it long,
But died without the sight.
5. The watchmen join their voice,
And tuneful notes employ;
Jerusalem breaks forth in songs,
And deserts learn the joy.
6. The Lord makes bare his arm
Through all the earth abroad;
Let every nation now behold

Their Saviour and their God

103.

1. HOW charming is the place

Where my Redeemer, God,
Unveils the beauties of his face,
And sheds his love abroad!

2. Not the fair palaces,

To which the great resort,

Are once to be compared with this,
Where Jesus holds his court.

3. Here, on the mercy-seat,

With radiant glory crowned,
Our joyful eyes behold him sit,
And smile on all around.

4 To him their prayers and cries
Each humble soul presents;
He listens to their broken sighs,
And grants them all their wants.

5. To them his sovereign will
He graciously imparts,

And, in return, accepts with smiles,
The tribute of their hearts.

6. Give me, O Lord, a place
Within thy blest abode,

Among the children of thy grace,
The servants of my God.

183.

1. MY soul, repeat his praise

Whose mercies are so great, Whose anger is so slow to rise, So ready to abate.

2. His power subdues our sins, And his forgiving love,

Far as the east is from the west, Doth all our guilt remove. 3. High as the heavens are raised Above the ground we tread, So far the riches of his grace Our highest thoughts exceed.

87.

1. ARISE, and bless the Lord,
Ye people of his choice;
Arise, and bless the Lord your God,
With heart, and soul, and voice.
2. Though high above all praise,
Above all blessing high,

Who would not fear his holy name,
And laud, and magnify?

3. O for the living flame

From his own altar brought,
To touch our lips, our souls inspire,
And wing to heaven our thought!
4. God is our strength and song,
And his salvation ours;

Then be his love in Christ proclaimed
With all our ransomed powers.

5. Arise, and bless the Lord;

The Lord your God adore;
Arise, and bless his glorious name,
Henceforth, for evermore.

1. HOW beauteous are their feet

Who stand on Zion's hill; Who bring salvation on their tongues, And words of peace reveal. 2. How charming is their voice!

How sweet their tidings are !-"Zion, behold thy Saviour King; He reigns and triumphs here."

3. How happy are our ears,

40.

1. WELCOME, sweet day of rest,
That saw the Lord arise;
Welcome to this reviving breast,
And these rejoicing eyes.

2. The King himself comes near,
And feasts his saints to-day
Here we may sit, and see him here,
And love, and praise, and pray.

3. One day, amid the place

Where Christ, my Lord, has been, Is sweeter than ten thousand days Of pleasure and of sin.

4. My willing soul would stay

In such a frame as this,

Till called to rise and soar away
To everlasting bliss.

1068.

1. BLEST be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship of kindred minds
Is like to that above.

2. Before our Father's throne

We pour our ardent prayers;

Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one,
Our comforts and our cares.

8. We share our mutual woes,

Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.

4. When we asunder part,

It gives us inward pain;

But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.

5. This glorious hope revives

Our courage by the way;
While each in expectation lives,
And longs to see the day.

6. From sorrow, toil, and pain,

And sin, we shall be free,

And perfect love and friendship reign
Through all eternity.

[blocks in formation]

1. BLEST Comforter divine,
Let rays of heavenly love
Amid our gloom and darkness shine,
And guide our souls above.

2. Turn us, with gentle voice,
From every sinful way,
And bid the mourning saint rejoice,
Though earthly joys decay.

3. By thine inspiring breath

Make every cloud of care,
And e'en the gloomy vale of death,
A smile of glory wear.

4. O, fill thou every heart

With love to all our race;
Great Comforter, to us impart
These blessings of thy grace.
