My report for the year 1879 contains a detailed statement as to certain mortgages in my possession. Nothing has been realized thereon during the year, and I consider them worthless. A claim presented by me against the Receiver of the New Jersey Mutual Life Insurance Company, for the amount claimed to be owing to this Company from the New Jersey Mutual, and to secure which, said mortgages were transferred to this Company, amounting to about $33,000, having been referred to Vice-Chancellor Amzi Dodd, of Newark, the matter has been during the year prosecuted in my behalf before the Vice-Chancellor. A great number of hearings were had and the matter is still pending. Being thereto advised I have also commenced an action in this State, by permission of the Court, against the Receiver of the New Jersey Mutual Life Insurance Company, seeking to reach assets in this State, and to enforce the claim above referred to, which is pending.
