DEPARTMENTAL REQUESTS

Senator RUSSELL. The subcommittee will come to order. Today the subcommittee begins hearings on the Department of se appropriation bill for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1964. Tras subcommittee will have under consideration requests for new gational authority totaling $49,014,237,000. This does not inde other requests of the Department of Defense for the following

nt requested for all of those activities that are connected with e defense of our country and the maintenance of peace on this sphere inges to about $52,800 million. It is a very staggering sum of money when considered in some aspects. When we look to the things that expenditure is supposed to protect, it is not excessive.
