An interesting event in the laying of the THIRD Atlantic Cable of the Commercial Cable Co.

On July 2, 1894, after the last splice or joint was made between the heavy shore end and the lighter deep sea end, about 100 miles from land, the cable was gradually and carefully lowered into the sea by means of the hawser shown in the picture, and on reaching a proper level in the water, the rope was severed, and the last act in the laying of the cable was performed amid cheers and congratulations.

CABLEGRAMS ACCEPTED AT ALL OFFICES OF THE POSTAL TELEGRAPH Co. JOHN W. MACKAY. President. GEO. G. WARD. Vice-President & Gen'l Manager.
