International Cup.

The $.00 cup offered by the Seawanhaka-Corinthian Yacht Club in 1895 as a perpetual international challenge cup for half raters was contested for in 1398 by the Challenger, S. C. Y. C., and the Dominion of the Royal St. Lawrence Yacht Club. of Montreal, Canada; the races taking place on Lake S. Louis, Canada. The results:

Aug. 13-Challenger wins on a foul by Domin-! ion at the start, though Dominion beat her in actual time by 6s.

The Eagle Model Yacht Trophy. The Brooklyn Daily Eagle in March, 1896, donated to the American Model Yacht Club of Brooklyn a cup to be held as a perpetual challenge trophy, open to challenge from any duly organized model yacht club in the United States under certain specified conditions.

Article II. of the conditions states: "The objects of this trophy are to stimulate the building and sailing of models of yachts on scientific principles, for the purpose of ascertaining the relative merits of different forms as to speed and seaworthiness."

The cup is of silver, 91⁄2 inches in height, the bowl being over 6 inches in diameter. On one side is a large eagle with outstretched wings in bold relief. On the reverse side a model yacht under sail is delineated and the inscription, "Brooklyn Daily Eagle Perpetual Challenge Trophy for Model Yachts." The first challenge was made by the Wave Crest Miniature Yacht Club.

notified by cable that the Royal Ulster Yacht Club desired to challenge for the America's cup, if agreeable to the New York Club, on behalf of Sir Thomas Johnstone Lipton. At a special meeting of the New York Club on Aug. 11, the matter was considered and the Royal Ulster Club notified by cable that a challenge would be "most agreeable." A committee was appointed to arrange details.

On Sept. 3, the formal challenge was presented by a committee of the Royal Ulster Club; naming the yacht Shamrock, to be of 89 5-10 feet load water line length. The challenge was at once accepted, and on Sept. 7 all details were arranged by the committees of the two clubs for a match of best three in five races, the first of which to be sailed on Oct. 3, 1899, starting from Sandy Hook lightship.

Sept. 21-Total loss of famous schooner yacht Rebecca on Delaware breakwater; all hands saved. Sept. 27-Schooner yacht Amorita makes the record run from New London to Newport, 42 nautical miles, in 3h. and 10m.

Oct. 17-Steam yacht Presto, owned by J. Adolph Mollenhauer, of Bay Shore, L. I., runs a mile in 1m. 59s. (or over 30 miles per hour), the fastest time ever made by a cruising yacht in any waters. Previous runs have been made by this yacht in from 2m. to 2m. 7s.

BOWLING.

The fourth contest for the Brooklyn Daily Eagle bowling trophy, offered for competition among the clubs of the Royal Arcanum Bowling League, was represented by twenty-nine councils. The clubs were divided into two sections, one of fifteen clubs and one of fourteen for preliminary trials, with a final contest of fifteen clubs selected from the leaders. The preliminaries began on the Elephant Club alleys, 1411 Fulton street, Brooklyn, on September 28-29, 1897, and were completed on December 22-30. The finals began on January 10, 1898, finishing on February 26, Bedford winning. The record:
