GOOD BICYCLE ROADS OF LONG ISLAND.

The South Shore (Merrick Road) has received considerable attention and is now in good shape for riding or driving to Amagansett, especially for cyclists, having fine improved roadways with side paths or cycle paths the entire length. The poor stretch from Amityville to Babylon has had much labor expended on it, and a cycle path is being built between these two points. A cinder path has been built along the country road just west of Oakdale and the highway itself improved. Oakdale to Patchogue side path and cycle paths from are excellent. Cycle path running east Patchogue is hard and in good shape. The gravel hill west of Moriches is in poor condition. The sandy stretch between Quogue and Good Ground has good edge path and the cycle path commenced a year ago is to be completed. The bad stretch just east of the Shinnecock Canal bridge has had considerable work expended upon it, and dismounts at this po nt are no longer necessary.

The road over the Shinnecock Hills has been surfaced with loam, and the condition of the roads very much improved. Through Southampton From to Bridgehampton the road is excellent. Bridgehampton to East Hampton a beautiful cycle A cycle path winds its way through the woods. path has been built this year through East Hampton and from East Hampton through to Amagansett. The twelve mile stretch between Amagansett and Montauk Station is not passable for cyclists; the first two-thirds of the distance being through the sand of the inner beach, the balance of it is fair country road. At extremely low tide the outer beach is sometimes ridden from East Hampton to the Life-Saving Station. From Montauk Station to the Third House road is fair. From the Third House to Montauk Light road can only be ridden by experienced road riders. The branch roads and paths of the South Shore in good condition are as follows:

Rockville Centre to Long Branch, all good macadam road except about one-third of a mile, which is not quite completed, but has a good edge path. Bay Shore road to Fire Island Ferry. At Patchogue good road and cycle path to the beach. At Westhamp

Valley Stream to Rockaway.
