BE IT REMEMBERED, That on the sixteenth day of July in the thirty-eighth year of the independence of the United State of America, A. D. 1813, Peter A. Browne, of the said district, hath deposited in this office the title of a book the right whereof he claims aɛ author in the words following, to wit:

"Reports of Cases adjudged in the District Court for the City and County of Philadelphia, and the Courts of Common Pleas, of Pennsylvania. By Peter A. Browne."

In conformity to the act of congress of the United States, entitled "An act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books, to the authors and proprietors of such copies during the times therein mentioned." And also to the act, entitled "An act supplementary to an act entitled 'An act for the encouragement of learning, by securing the copies of maps, charts, and books, to the authors and proprietors of such copies during the times therein mentioned,' and extending the benefits thereof to the arts of designing, engraving and etching historcial and other prints."

HE Honourable the Legislature of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, at a Session begun and held on the first Tuesday of December, 1810, passed the following Act, entitled

"AN ACT to provide for the erection of an additiona Court within the City and County of Philadelphia."

"WHEREAS the Court of Common Pleas of the City and County of Philadelphia, from the various objects of it jurisdiction, and the great increase and accumulation of business, is incompetent to the speedy and effectual administration of justice to the citizens of that district. For remedy whereof

SECT. 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and house of Repre sentatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in genera assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That there shall be a court of record established in and for the city and county of Philadelphia, by the name and style of "The District Court for the City and County of Philadelphia," which shall consist of a president and two assistant judges, any two of whom, in case of the absence or inability of the other, shall have power to try, hear and deVOL.
