The budget for fiscal year 1970 for the Office of State Technical Services was $290,000. This is a decrease of $5,010,000 from the fiscal year 1969 appropriation. The reason for the decrease is that the program was being evaluated and a determination made as to whether it merited continued Federal support. An evaluation of the program was made and it was found that the program was providing useful and economic service in transferring technology to business and industry. In view of the results of the findings, a supplemental request for an additional $5,000,000 is being requested. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE OFFICE OF STATE TECHNICAL SERVICES GRANTS AND EXPENSES For an additional amount for "Grants and expenses", including grants as authorized by the State Technical Services Act of 1965 (79 Stat. 679), as amended (82 Stat. 423), $5,000,000. This proposed supplemental appropriation will provide matching technical service grants and related activities for the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Guam, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and regional and national programs of special merit. This proposal will allow the Department to maintain this useful and economic service to business and industry. |
