"The insects are charmingly represented in all their mutations; and on such large and characteristic specimens of their food, the whole Plants as well as Insects being scientifically delineated and described, that this publication is to the full as valuable to the Botanist as it is to the Entomologist: we never before beheld the sister sciences walk so closely, and so engagingly hand in hand, as in this interesting volume. It is truly a Flora et Entomologia.”—Haworth's Review of Entomology. 2 Abel's (Clarke) Narrative of a Journey in the Interior of China, and of a Voyage to and from that Country in 1816-17, 4to. map & plates, some coloured, (pub. at 31.3s.) bds. 11. 5s.

EDITIO PRINCEPS. It unites all the works of the three Ælians, and is said by Harwood to be " very correct and valuable, and of rare occurrence. Dibdin considers it "a very beautiful publication," and it may be added, that it has been a desideratum in many eminent classical collections.

ib. 1784 "Critica ac præstans editio," says Harles. The text of Gronovius is followed, with occasional emendations, and the notes are chiefly selected from the same edition. Schneider's own remarks, which are the most valuable, are principally devoted to comparing, rectifying, or confirming the narratives of his author, with little attention to grammatical illustration. Several learned Excursus, Paralipomena, and three Indexes, contribute to the excellence of this edition. Perhaps, however, Gesner's Prolegomena and Table of Contents, ought to have been added." "This work, which Alamanni completed in six books, and which he appears to have undertaken rather in competition with, than in imitation of the Georgics, is written not only with great elegance and correctness of style, but with a very extensive knowledge of the subject on which he professes to treat, and contains many passages which may bear a com. parison with the most celebrated parts of the work of his immortal pre decessor."- ROSCOE.
