Barozzi da) Regola de Cinque Ordini d'Architettura con la nuova aggionta di M. ANGELO BUONAROTI, portrait and 42 plates, text in Italian, Dutch, English and French-La 2 Parte dell Architetura della Vignola, title and 54 plates, including 10 of Ornaments, Amst. 1642 -together in one vol. folio, hf. calf, £10.

Libri had a copy of Crispin de Pas's Officina, of which he says:-"A valuable collection of copper-plate Engravings (very irregularly numbered), in which are to be found some very beautiful models for the higher order of joinery and cabinetwork. The first plates relate rather to architecture than joinery; but in the succeeding ones will be found the most beautiful models conceivable for cabinets, bedsteads, tables, chairs, etc. with the richest and most varied ornaments. It is truly a charming series. The title to the book is in Latin, French, German and Dutch. This work must be rather rare, as Brunet, who has described in detail a great number of the less interesting works of Crispin de Pas, or Passæus, knew not this."

Of the third part of this very valuable collection" la 2 Parte dell' Arch. della Vignola" I can find no mention whatever. It must be rare.

the same, LARGE PAPER, impl. 4to. numerous SUPERB IMPRESSIONS of the plates and woodcuts, hf. bd. vellum, uncut, £24. Only 50 copies were printed on Large Paper.

This magnificent book is printed uniformly with Dibdin's Ames, and with that work forms a grand series of the History of Printing and Engraving.

“Mr. Ottley is the first among us who has treated of the early art of Engraving in a manner which it deserves to be treated; and the embellishments which he has introduced are equally distinguished for their felicity and fidelity."-Dibdin's Deca

meron.

"See Ottley's excellent History of Engraving."-Lord Lindsay's Christian Art, v. iii. p. 354. 509 OTTLEY'S ITALIAN SCHOOL OF DESIGN, one vol. royal folio, 81 carefully engraved and tinted plates, being a series of facsimiles of original DRAWINGS by the most eminent PAINTERS and SCULPTORS of Italy, with biographical notices, (pub. at £12. 12s) an original Subscriber's copy, hf. bound red morocco extra, uncut, £6, 6s

511 OTTLEY'S FACSIMILES OF SCARCE AND CURIOUS PRINTS by the EARLY MASTERS of the Italian, German and Flemish Schools; illustrative of the HISTORY OF ENGRAVING, folio, 100 engravings on INDIA PAPER, genuine first impressions with descriptive letterpress, and with 12 duplicate impressions of the celebrated Niellos after Finiguerra, faithfully copied in silver to represent the originals as near as possible, red French morocco extra, gilt edges by Hardy-Ménil, £8. 88 1826

This beautiful work may be fairly stated to be unpublished, as very few copies were ever distributed, and those chiefly as presents by the late Proprietor. The accurate knowledge of the late Mr. Ottley in this peculiar department of the Fine Arts is here displayed. It would be impossible for the collector to have more faithful copies of the rare specimens contained in the present elegant volume.
