THE following sheets are committed to the Press, not from any feeling, or desire after authorship, on the part of him who has ventured to submit them for perusal ; neither do they lay claim to the patronage of any particular individual. That they present for consideration, some of the most important and interesting truths of the gospel, is all that is maintained; and that God, by his Spirit, may bless them to the comfort and instruction of those by whom they may be read, is ardently desired. It is presumed, at the same time, that there are those dear friends of the author, (and the number is many,) to whom the following pages will be the means of recaling former associations, and local intimacies; and thus heart will meet heart again, as when we were present together. It will further be seen by such, that the substance of a few of these discourses was presented to them in a living shape, during the author's ministry at Brigg.
