BY-LAWS.

ARTICLE I.

NAME AND OBJECTS.

SECTION 1.-This body, incorporated under the laws of the State of New York, shall be known as the New York County Medical Association.

The objects of this Society are to bring together, in association, for the purpose of mutual and professional benefit, members of the profession of medicine in the City of New York, having a community of sentiment relating to the honor, interest and usefulness of the profession and the maintenance of its character, the cultivation of the science of medicine and the promotion of public health.

ARTICLE II.

MEMBERSHIP.

SECTION 1.-The membership of the Association shall consist of Regular practitioners of medicine and Regular graduates in medicine, residing in the County of New York.

SECTION 2.-An application for membership shall be made on blanks furnished by the Association, signed by the applicant, endorsed by two members, which shall be sent with the profes25690

sional credentials of the applicant and the annual dues to the Corresponding Secretary, who shall present them at the first meeting of the Executive Committee following their receipt. The Executive Committee shall publish the names as "candidates for membership before the Executive Committee " upon the notice of the next meeting of the Association, and after due publication and investigation the Executive Committee shall order the names of all candidates to be elected to membership printed upon the notices of the following stated meeting of the Association, when a majority of the members voting shall be necessary to elect.

SECTION 3.-Each member who has regularly qualified by paying the current dues and assessments shall be entitled to receive a certificate of membership. A candidate not elected shall have his annual dues returned.

SECTION 4.-All communications received by the Executive Committee which relate to the character and standing of candidates, shall be treated by the Committee as confidential.

SECTION 5.--There shall be no election of candidates for membership at the annual meeting.

SECTION 6.-All resignations shall be sent to the Corresponding Secretary in writing, and referred by him to the Executive Committee. If accepted by the Association, the member by this act severs all connection with the Association and relinquishes all right and title to any share in its property and shall return his certificate of membership to the Corresponding Secretary when demanded by the Executive Committee.

SECTION 7.-Application for reinstatement to membership shall be governed by Section 2 of this Article.
