Is Diabetes Curable?-Within the last few years numerous preparations for diabetes promising a complete cure have made their appearance, but none of them have been able to eliminate or even reduce the sugar secretions as effectively as expurgo antidiabetes, a remedy which within the last year has been put on the market in this country. This preparation is successfully applied in cases where sugar remains in spite of a non-carbohydrate diet. A medicine to be antiglycosuric should have the following requisites: 1. It must be absolutely harmless. 2. There should be considerably less glycosuria with an ordinary diet than would be possible without medicine. 3. It must bring about a quick aglycosuria under a strict antidiabetic diet. 4. It must increase the assimilation of carbohydrates. 5. It must result-if not in a complete cure-in a lasting improvement even after the medicine has been discontinued. The results so far obtained from expurgo antidiabetes fulfil to a more or less marked degree all those conditions, as is shown by the experience of many physicians here in Chicago who in various obstinate cases have used this remedy. It can justly be said that among all the remedies recommended for diabetes, none has proved itself more efficacious and has been used with more success than expurgo antidiabetes. Not only is this remedy effective in mild cases and in the first stages of this disease, but it has also been successfully used in treating advanced cases, where a urinalysis not only showed a high percentage of sugar but also disclosed the presence of acetone, albumen, etc. Expurgo antidiabetes diminishes the flow of urine, lowers the specific gravity, and rapidly reduces the secretion of sugar until a permanent sugar-free condition is established. Not only is the percentage of sugar reduced or eliminated, but the patients, at the same time, gain in weight, while their general condition of health shows a marked improvement. This not only applies to old cases previously treated with other remedies but also to new ones not yet treated, irrespective of a high or low percentage of sugar present at the beginning of treatment. The length of time it takes to obtain a cure depends upon the severity of the case and the inroad the disease has made, but it is estimated that on an average, a cure can be accomplished within three to four months' time. The remedy should be taken in the morning before breakfast-four tablespoonfuls at a time-and in the evening before bedtime. So far no injurious effects of the medicine have been noticed. It is of vital importance that during the treatment a strict diet-according to instructions-is adhered to. In so far as one can judge by months and years of experience, and by observation of the condition of health of patients treated with expurgo antidiabetes, it can be said that the cures obtained have been permanent. In conclusion, expurgo antidiabetes is no nostrum but a combination of diverse glycosides and perfectly harmless.

A successful medical practitioner of many years standing makes the following statement: "There are a large majority of combinations which extemporaneous pharmacy cannot prepare properly; and I know that through the dishonesty, ignorance, or indifference of many retail druggists we are not able to get on prescriptions the very best drugs; hence it is to the manufacturing pharmacist, whose best interest lies in the purity and uniformity of his product, that we look for our most reliable remedies. I endorse worthy proprietaries, but I most heartily condemn the great tendency of manufacturing pharmacists to foist upon the profession and public cheap imitations of standard preparations."

The Vaginal Douche.-The value of hot water applications either plain or medical is recognized. The proper application of a douche is, however, a matter of importance. To distend the vaginal folds so that the fluid will come in contact with the entire mucous membrane is the object to be accomplished. The Marvel whirling syringe is especially constructed to assure of this being done. With this instrument the clothing is not soiled, neither are the delicate parts burned by the hot application injected. The Marvel syringe cannot throw a solid stream, but discharges a volume of whirling spray, producing no shock, and is absolutely harmless. This spray is carried in stock by all dealers and druggists, or if information of a detailed character is desired, a communication sent to the Marvel Co., 44 East 23d street, New York, will bring you the necessary data.

A Standard Malt Extract. It is stated that Hoff's" is the only malt extract known and recommended the world over. It is interesting to note the approval of Prof. Prosper de Pietra Santa of Paris, in his work on pulmonary diseases: "This malt extract has remarkable nutritious action, both tonic and invigorating, and has proved to be of great value in chronic diseases. My personal experience leads me to confirm the praise which Prof. Laveau expresses in the following words: "As a large number of patients lack the necessary power to digest solid food I regard it of immense value to the practitioner to bring to his aid a nutritious tonic such as Johann Hoff's malt extract which will act not only as a tonic but as a nutrient as well, and which is less exciting than wine as a stimulant."

The Relief of Enteroptosis.-The many reflex ills that are caused by enteroptosis emphasize the great importance of overcoming this condi tion at the earliest possible moment by affording proper abdominal support. Many different belts and devices have been brought forward for this purpose, but none has ever given the satisfaction that the Storm binder has. This effective supporter has the great advantage of providing adequate support with minimum pressure. consequence, although the Storm binder supplies gratifying relief and brings the abdominal viscera up into position, it does not constrict the abdomen nor offer the slightest obstacle to free muscular movement. For the obese or those afflicted with a relapsed abdomen there is nothing that will prove as thoroughly effective and at the same time afford as complete comfort as a Storm binder. Made of splendid material, these binders keep their shape and wear indefinitely.

lodine as an Antiseptic.-The value of iodine as an antiseptic is well known. It is powerful in action yet less toxic than mercuric chloride or carbolic acid. The lack of available preparations alone has limited its field of use. Iogen, a product of the Lilly laboratories, permits of the nonirritating application of iodine and possesses the added advantage of liberating iodine gradually in the presence of moisture such as that secreted by wounds, abscesses, boils, abrasions, etc., thus prolonging the action without damage to the tis sues. Iogen is the result of the action of iodine upon anhydride of phthalic acid. Undiluted it will liberate 52 per cent of iodine in the presence of moisture. For medical and surgical uses it is diluted with an inert vehicle so that but 2 per cent of iodine is liberated. Iogen (formerly called iodone, Lilly) is supplied in three forms to meet the demand for a wide range of applicationiogen surgical powder, iogen oil and iogen ointment. Further information and literature will be supplied upon application to the home office of Eli Lilly & Company, Indianapolis.

Send Your High Grade Unfortunate Patients to An Ethical Seclusion Sanitarium YOU must realize, Doctor, the importance of your advice when consulted regarding what to do in the case of a young woman who has made a misstep. The young woman and her family in their trouble come to you as their family physician, knowing that you are the one to give honest advice.

Y

You, as an ethical practitioner, know that there is only one solution to the problem. The patient must be removed from her family, friends and community. She must be taken from her home before her condition becomes public gossip. But it should not be a matter of "any haven of refuge" to avoid exposure. She must be well cared for among associates of her own class, given skillful medical and nursing attention, and a good home found for her unwelcome offspring. Such is the service offered the physician by The Willows, Kansas City, Mo.

Malnutrition

While atrophy may be due to many causes, it is very constantly associated with errors of diet. Marasmic infants are always hungry, often ravenous, are usually not troubled with vomiting. and their stools are generally smooth and apparently well digested. Infants in this condition seem to digest their food properly. but do not assimilate it. Therefore, the diet must of necessity be such that it is assimilated easily and quickly

Of the three food elements, fat, proteins and carbohydrates, experience has shown that marasmic infants have the greatest difficulty in utilizing fat. The fat must therefore be replaced

Attention must be paid to the marked results obtained abroad by the use of the spleen in tubercular cases.

We have combined this action of the spleen with the well known reconstructive action of Protonuclein, meeting the modern theory of building up the body to combat Tuberculosis.
