449. C. M.
Matt. x. 16, 17.
EHOLD, I send you forth, as sheep Near to your watchful Shepherd keep,
Commit to him your souls.
The wisdom from above
And their insidious love.
And harmless as the dove;
And fix on God above,
Beware of Satan too;
My constant bosom-foe.
And fight my passage through;
The same subject.
And to my ways take heed;
And circumspectly tread. 2 O may I calmly wait
Thy succours from above,
And well-dissembled love.
3 My Spirit, Lord, alarm,
When men and devils join; 'Gainst all the powers of Satan arm,
In panoply divine. 4 But, above all, afraid
Of my own bosom-foe,
To thee my bosom show;5 Hang on thy arm alone,
With self-uistrusting care, And deeply in the spirit groan The never-ceasing prayer.
451. C. M. The Soldiers of Christ exhorted. A arm
The powers of hell are near, Awake! to watchfulness and prayer
And thou hast nought to fear. 2 Awake! with gospel armour on,
In panoply complete ;-.
And gospel peace thy feet.
Almighty strength put on,
And trust in Christ alone.
Watch in the Spirit too,
452. S. M. Wesley's Coll.
Soldiers of Christ exhorted.
And put your armour on,
Through his eternal Son.
2 Strong in the Lord of hosts,
And of his mighty power,
Is more than conqueror.
With all his strength endued, And take, to arm you for the fight,
The panoply of God.
And all your conflicts past,
And be complete at last. 5 To God your every want
In instant prayer display ;
453. S. M. Heath.
; And many a sin is pressing hard,
To draw thee from the skies. 2 Arise! and watch and pray,
The conflict ne'er give o'er;
And help Divine impiore. 3 Ne'er think the victory won,
Nor once at ease sit down;
454. , S. M. Wesley's Coll.
Soldiers of Christ encouraged.
Attend the trumpet's sound!
The powers of hell surround.
2 Who bow to Christ's command,
Your arms and hearts prepare; The day of battle is at hand,
Go forth to glorious war! 3 See, on the mountain top,
The standard of
All stain'd with hallowed blood. 4 Go up with Christ your Head!
Your Captain's footsteps see! Follow yeur Captain, and be led
To certain victory.
He beckons from the skies, And reaches out a starry crown,
And bids us take the prize. 2 Be faithful unto death;
Parlake my victory; And thou shalt wear this glorious wreath. And ever reign with me.
456. C. M. Watts. Stand fast in the faith. 1 Cor. xvi. 13.
A follower of the Lamb ? And shall I fear to own his cause
Or blush to speak his name? 2 Must I be carried to the skies,
On flow'ry beds of ease;
And sail'd through bloody seas? 3 Are there no fes for me to face?
Must I not item the flood ?
4 Sure I must fight, if I would reign;
Increase my courage, Lord!
Supported by thy word.
Shall conquer though they die': They see the triumph from afar,
And seize it with their eye.
And all thy armies shine
457. C. M. Baltimore Collection.
Breathing after Zeal and Courage, DFAST thon, dear Jesus, suffer shame.? And shall I fear to own tly name
And thy disciple be?
To suffer pain or loss ;
And glory in thy cross.
And holy courage bold;
Nor love, nor zeal grow cold.
The face of feeble man?
· Before thee;. in the van.! 50, how, my soul would up and run,
At that transporting word !
To follow thee, my Lord ! 6 To thee I cheerfully submit, And all
my powers resignLet wisdom point out what is fit.
And I'll no more repine.
