The Hospital of the Good Samaritan is an institution of 100 beds for patients, a diocesan hospital owned and managed by the Episcopal Church in Southern California, but undenominational in its benefits, being a general hospital for the reception of patients, irrespective of nationality or creed The hospital does not have an attending staff and is open to all reputable physicians, especial effort being made to serve the profession as a whole. The hospital has a house pathologist, and furnishes all laboratory work free to those in moderate circumstances. FOOD AND DIET. The hospital is provided with a main kitchen and five diet kitchens equipped with steam cooking utensils. All dishes used in the hospital are sterilized after each meal. The hospital controls a private dairy ranch, insuring patients the purest milk and farm products. The drinking water is passed through Pasteur filters and then sterilized under high pressure. OPERATING ROOMS. These rooms are four in number, and used for different purposes. The main operating pavilion, of six rooms, is considered most modern and complete. OBSTETRICAL DEPARTMENT. This department consists of a confinement, an operating, and a sterilizing room and a nursery with incubator. CHILDREN'S DEPARTMENT. This is especially equipped for Orthopedic Surgery, having an X-Ray room, plaster room, electricity and massage rooms and gymnasium; also a sun room for the administration of Violet rays in tubercular joint disease. THE HOSPITAL SIGNAL AND TELEPHONE SYSTEM. This system has been installed throughout the building. PROVISION FOR ALL CLASSES. There are elegant suites and apartments, with private baths and telephones, for those who desire luxurious accommodations, and the hospital is also prepared to take care of those in moderate circumstances. TRAINING SCHOOL FOR NURSES. This school gives a three years' graded course. The work of each year consists of eighty didactic lectures, on ten different branches, by physicians and surgeons; fifty classroom instructions, given by the superintendent and Head Nurses of the various departments, including practical work in cooking. massage, electricity and medical gymnastics, and general medical and surgical duty, special duty, operating room service, service in the children's department and in the obstetrical department.
