ELECTRIC RAILWAY BY WM. H. FORSE, JR. Association, Treasurer Indiana Union Traction Co. NEW YORK PREFACE. The methods of accounting described in the following pages are not those in use by any particular electric railway, but an attempt has been made to group some of the best ideas gleaned from many sources, and to combine them in a harmonious whole. The accounting requirements of interurban railways engaged in local and interline business have been carefully considered, and some special features of city railway accounting are explained. The three essentials of any good system of accounting are clarity, accuracy and comparative economy. It has been our endeavor to eliminate from the methods outlined, those which tend to sacrifice these valuable features. The forms illustrated are reproductions of ones actually used by electric railways with the exception that company names are omitted. 257731 CONTENTS. PAGE Preface.
