THE TWENTY-NINTH ANNUAL REPORT

OF THE

MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT.

To the Directors of the Insane Asylum of the State of California, at Stockton:

As Superintendent of the State Insane Asylum at Stockton, I hereby submit the twenty-ninth annual report of the operations of said institution for the twelve months ending with June 30, 1881.

For the information of the executive officers of similar institutions, of Boards of public charities, and all others interested, who expect annually to receive the reports of this Asylum, it seems necessary to repeat the statement that the reports of this institution are published only once in two years, and that such biennial publications contain two reports of the Medical Superintendent, who reports annually to the Board of Directors.

The following tabular statement will show the number of patients and their movement during the year:

Thus it will be seen that the year commenced with 1,116 patients; that 149 were admitted; that 1,265 were under care and treatment; that 54 were discharged as recovered; 15 as improved, and 1 as unimproved; that 92 died and 1 escaped; making the aggregate number leaving the Asylum during the year, 163, or 14 more than the number of admissions.
