Besonders lasse er auch mit dem angetretenen neuen Jahre recht glückliche Tage für Euch anbrechen und erhalte und stärke, zu unser Aller Wohl, Eure theure Gesundheit. All children owe a deep debt of gratitude to their mothers, but mine is far deeper than that of most children, for the all-sacrificing love, which you have displayed towards me since my earliest infancy, is rare, even amongst mothers. Jeder Tag mahnt mich zu Wünschen und Bitten für Deine Gesundheit und lange Lebensdauer, weil jeder Tag mir Wohlthaten von Dir bringt, aber an keinem sind meine Wünsche und Bitten für Dein Wohl inniger und herzlicher, als am Neujahrstag, der mich die Summe aller Wohlthaten, die ich Dir verdanke, mehr als jeder andere überdenken läßt. Ein jedes Kind hat seiner Mutter unendich viel zu verdanken, ich aber verdanke Dir, o theuerste Mutter, bei weitem mehr, als die meisten andern Kinder der ihrigen, denn eine solche aufopfernde Liebe und unermüdliche Sorgfalt, wie Du gegen mich seit meiner frühesten Kindheit gezeigt hast, ist selbst unter Müttern selten. Ach! welche Opfer kostet es Dir nicht jezt noch, um mich in den Stand zu sehen, mein Geschäft tüchtig zu lernen. Wie soll ich Dir für diese Aufopferung hinreichend danken? Das Schicksal hat uns zwar seit Jahren getrennt, aber meinem Herzen bist Du fortwährend nahe geblieben; ja es ist eine Sehnsucht, Dich einmal, und recht bald, wieder zu sehen, in mir erwacht, caß ich nur diesem unwiderstehlichen Drange folge, Dir die besten Segenswünsche bei dem bevorstehenden Jahreswechsel aus der Ferne zuzurufen. Gott gebe, daß es Dir in dem neuen Jahre immer recht wohl gehen möge, daß Dir bei Gesundheit und Frohsinn Deine Tage in dem Kreise Deiner neuen Bekannten heiter verfließen und daß Du einst in der heimathlichen Gegend ein behagliches Pläzchen findest, um da Deine Hütte zu bauen.
