This booklet has been prepared because of an urgent need by field officials for a handbook or text containing basic information for training of CCC supervisory personnel. The content was outlined in the Enrollee Training Division, and three CCC training officers, while on detail in Washington, assembled and amplified material on the subject. This was edited, added to as necessary and referred to the Regional Offices of the Forest Service for criticism. All Regions made general and specific recommendations which were carefully examined and the majority made a part of the book.

The material was arranged, some sections written, and most editing done by G. H. Hieronymus, CCC Training Officer,

Division of Enrollee Training.

Information contained in this book is not new to most foremen; it is facts and opinions on supervision and training brought together in a handy form. Training has been given more space then supervision because there have been many requests for a rather full treatment of this phase of foremanship. The final chapter is composed of fifty cases for study which typify the usual problems that confront CCC supervisory personnel.

This book is being produced in its present form because it 18 felt that through use its weaknesses will be located and changes recommended. Officials in the CCC organization are requested to put it to such use by personnel responsible for supervision and training as will increase appreciation of the importance of the job and stimulate improvement of themselves to meet their responsibilities.
