SALARIES OF STATE OFFICERS AND EMPLOYES.

THE LEGISLATURE.

Senators and members of the House of Representatives each receive $1,500 for the regular biennial session, and mileage to and from their homes at the rate of twenty cents per mile; for a special or extraordinary session they receive $500 and mileage as aforesaid. In addition to the above they are given fifty dollars for stationery and one hundred dollars in postage. The chief clerks of the Senate and House of Representatives each receive $2,500 for years in which regular biennial sessions are held, and $1,000 for the years in which no regular biennial sessions are held, but in case a special or extraordinary session is held in that year they shall each receive an additional salary of $10 per diem during each session, but cannot receive more than $2,500 in any one year.

The Librarian of the Senate receives $2,000 per annum. The Resident Clerk of the House of Representatives receives $2,000 for the years in which regular biennial sessions are held, and $1,500 for the years in which no regular biennial sessions occur, but in case a special or extraordinary session is held in those years he receives an additional salary of $8 per day; the total sum in any one year cannot exceed $2,000.

The reading and journal clerks of the Senate and House of Representatives each receive $1,800 for the year in which regular biennial sessions are held, and $10 per day for special or extraordinary sessions that are held in years in which no regular biennial sessions occur, but the amount for such a session cannot exceed $1,800.

The executive clerk of the Senate receives $1,500 for each regular or biennial session and ten dollars per diem for any extra or special session held in years in which no regular or biennial session is held and like per diem compensation for the first ten days of a succeeding session.

For each regular biennial, special or extraordinary session the message clerks of the Senate and House of Representatives each receive $8 per diem; the transcribing clerks, bill clerks, sergeant-at-arms and assistants, Speakers' clerks and postmasters each receive $7 per diem; the doorkeepers and assistants, the assistant postmasters, messengers and assistants, superintendents of folding rooms, the engineer, firemen, Janitors and pasters and folders each receive $6 per diem; the chaplains each receive $3, and the pages $2 per diem; the watchmen each receive $3 per day during the year; the engineer and fireman in the cellar, in addition to their salaries during the sessions of the Legislature, each receive $3 per diem for the time employed during the recess.

Each of the above officers and employes receive mileage at the rate of ten cents per mile to and from their homes, to be computed by the ordinary mail route between their homes and the State Capital.

The officers of the Senate and House who are authorized, by act of

1874, page 129, to return to the succeeding session, for ten days, are allowed $5. per diem and mileage at the rate of ten cents per mile to and from their homes.
