Bibliography of "The Natural History of Selborne"—(continued).

Besides the NATURAL HISTORY AND ANTIQUITIES OF SELBORNE, very little written by Gilbert White has
been published.

In 1774, an ACCOUNT OF THE HOUSE-MARTIN, OR MARTLET. IN A LETTER FROM THE REV. GILBERT
WHITE TO THE HON. DAINES BARRINGTON, was published in the Philosophical Transactions (vol. xiv. part 1).
This letter is dated, "Selborne, Nov. 20, 1773," and was read before the Royal Society on February 10, 1774.
It is Letter xvi. to Barrington in the NATURAL HISTORY OF SELBORNE.

Also in the Philosophical Transactions (vol. xv. part 2) was published an account OF THE HOUSE-SWALLOW,
SWIFT, AND SAND-MARTIN. BY THE REV. GILBERT WHITE, IN THREE LETTERS TO THE HON. DAINES
BARRINGTON, F.R.S. These letters were read before the Royal Society on March 16, 1775, and are dated,
"Selborne, Jan. 29, 1774, "Selborne, Sept. 28, 1774," and "Selborne, Feb. 26, 1774," respectively. They are
Letters xviii., xxi., and xx. to Barrington in the NATURAL HISTORY OF SELBORNE.

B. and J. White published an octavo volume in 1795, entitled A NATURALIST'S CALENDAR, WITH OBSER-
VATIONS IN VARIOUS BRANCHES OF NATURAL HISTORY; EXTRACTED FROM THE PAPERS OF THE LATE REV.
GILBERT WHITE, M.A., OF SELBORNE, HAMPSHIRE, SENIOR FELLOW OF ORIEL College, OXFORD. NEVER
This work was edited by Dr. Aikin. THE CALENDAR, and OBSERVATIONS were after-
BEFORE PUBLISHED.
wards printed in many editions of the NATURAL HISTORY OF SELBORNE.

BY

In 1834. John Murray published GLEANINGS IN NATURAL HISTORY. SECOND SERIES. TO WHICH
ARE ADDED SOME EXTRACTS FROM THE UNPUBLISHED MSS. OF THE LATE MR. WHITE OF SELBORNE.
EDWARD JESSE, ESQ., SURVEYOR OF HIS MAJESTY'S PARKS, PALACES, &c.

In the Transactions of the Norfolk and Norwich Naturalists' Society (vol. ii. pp. 133-195) appears THE
CORRESPONDENCE OF ROBERT MARSHAM, OF STRATTON STRAWLESS, IN THE COUNTY OF NORFOLK,
ESQUIRE, AND FELLOW OF THE ROYAL SOCIETY; AND THE REVEREND GILBERT WHITE, OF SELBORNE, IN
THE COUNTY OF SOUTHAMPTON, MASTER OF ARTS, AND FELLOW OF ORIEL COLLEGE IN THE UNIVERSITY
1790-1793. COMMUNICATED by the Rev. H. P. MARSHAM, AND PROF. BELL, SEPTEMBER
OF OXFORD.

28TH, 1875, AND MARCH IST, 1876.

In Notes and Queries (5th, S. vi. 280), there are printed ten hitherto unpublished Letters from the originals in the possession of the Reverend H. P. Marsham. The "Introductory Note" is by T. Southwell, and the foot-notes are by J. E. Harting and Professor Alfred Newton.

Great care has been taken to make this bibliography as complete and correct as may be; but it is almost impossible to trace every edition of this much-published work. The compiler feels sure that if any errors are found in it they will be of omission rather than of commission. An edition is assigned to the year 1793 by Agassiz and Strickland, but this is nearly certainly an error. Engelmann (Bibl. Hist.-Nat., i. p. 202) says an edition appeared in the year 1822, 2 volumes, 4to. This also appears to be a mistake, the 8vo edition being the only one of this date now known. Professor Alfred Newton queries an edition for 1841 (Notes and Queries, 5th, S. vii. p. 264), which the compiler of the above list has failed to trace.
