NOTES TO PEDIGREE OF RAYNSFORD.

Wolf hamcote, called in the district "Ovencote," sometimes "Wolverramcote." No baptisms or marriages at Wolfhamcote of Raynsfords.

In 1621 or 1623 Robert Rainsford presented to Wolfhamcote. The patron before him was one of the Spencers of Althorp.

1691 Robert Rainsford of ye City of London, gent., was bury'd Feb. 10. Affidavit, etc., Feb. 4.

John Rainsford the son of John Rainsford of Mears Ashby in the County of
Northton was buried the 10th of July. Affidavit, etc.

[N.B.-This entry is all scratched through with the pen, so that you can only just read it; but it is quite legible.]

On a sandstone headstone, having on it a coat of arms. Underneath the coat of arms the following inscription :-Ici | Reposent les restes mortels | de notre cher époux et bon père | JACQUES LOUIS DOMINIQUE | BARON VAN DER SMISEN | de Cortenberg | Général d'Artillerie | Officier de l'ordre Militaire de | Guillaume Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur etc. etc. etc. | née à Bruxelles le 20 Octobre 1788 | décédée à Hombourg le 5 Febr 1850 | à l'âge de 68 ans.

On a red sandstone headstone, exactly like the last and to the left of it, the following inscription, under a coat of arms:-Ici | Reposent les restes mortels | de notre chère et bonne mère | LOUISA CATHERINA COLLETON GRAVES | BARONNE VAN DER SMISSEN de Cortenberg Née au Château d'Hembury fort | Comté de Devon en Angleterre | le 15 Septembre 1792 | decédée à Homburg le 23 Novembre

Baronne van der Smissen was aged 75 years 2 months 8 days.

Mrs D. BELL, wife of DANIELL BELL, died 18 June 1856, aged about 26 years. (Position of grave, Section B, Gewann v., No. 5.)

This grave has been re-sold to another family, together with the monument

and railing; the inscription on the monument to Mrs. D. Bell has been effaced, and another inscription substituted on the old stone.

The inscription existed until April 1894, and Mrs. Bell is believed to have come from Clapham.

On a red sandstone headstone, removed from its place, which is now occupied by the monument to Ferdinand Vergin :-SAMUEL SEAWARD | only son of | SAMUEL SEAWARD | and | HARRIET his wife | died on the 10th September 1858 | Aged 22 years.

N.B. This grave was situated in Section B, Gewann iv., No. 17. The stone is now fixed against the wall near the mortuary-house.

A white cross on a grey stone base: --Sacred to the memory of | JULIA ERRINGTON | wife of ROWLAND ERRINGTON | died | August 6th | 1859. (Section B, Gewann iv., No. 19.)

On a large flat stone:-To the memory of | ELLEN | wife of CHARLES HARRISON of Ipswich died at Homburg the 4th of May 1860. | This stone is erected by her affectionate | mother in law | SUSAN C. HARRISON. (Section B, Gewann v., No. 23.)

Susan Harrison was aged 19 years.

A white marble headstone with a cross in a circle at the top:-In Memory of a beloved husband | Major General | Sir JOHN EARDLEY WILMOT INGLIS, K.C.B. | died at Homburg 27th September 1862, | aged 48 years.

GOD is Love.

A small oblong sandstone tablet at the head of the grave:-Sacred | to the Memory of MARY ANNE | Widow of Major R. H. RICHARDSON | 7th Madras Cavalry | Died 16th of August 1863 | aged 52. (Section B, Gewann vi., No. 6.)

A small white marble tablet, let into a slab of grey marble-Sacred | to the Memory of ALICE JANE | daughter of D. HANKIN Esq of Kimbolton Hants [? Hunts] | she died suddenly at Homburg on the | 15t May 1865 | aged 20 years. | This tablet is erected by a sorrowing brother | in affectionate remembrance of an only sister.

Be not afraid, only believe. | Mark v. v. 36.

N.B. This grave (Section A, Gewann v., No. 10) has been enclosed in the family grave of the Lommel family, and the monument has been buried under the path.*

On a small square slab:-To the Memory of | NATHANIEL BLAND Esqre | late of Randall's Park Leatherhead | Surrey | who died in Homburg August 10th, 1865. (Section A, Gewann iii., No. 9a.)

A Nassau marble monument, surmounted by an urn, with a white marble tablet let in, inscribed:-Major JOSEPH MAC | VICCAR | geb 26 Dez. 1816 zu Liverpool | gest 28 Juli 1866 zu Homburg.
