Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father." Phil. 2. 8, 11.

* Q. 7.-Are all things, then, at this moment, under the government of Christ?

A. Yes, all things. It was foretold of him, that The government should be on his shoulders." Is. 9. 6. And he hath said himself, "I have the keys of hell and of death;" which words teach us, that every thing which concerns us both in life and death, is under the government of Christ.

* Q. 8.-Give me a third reason, why Jesus Christ is our Lord.

A. He is our Lord, THIRDLY, because we have chosen him as our Lord, and Master, and solemnly engaged to give up ourselves to him and obey him.

Q. 9.-When did we thus choose the service of Christ?

A. Not only at our baptism, but whenever we have engaged in any religious service, and professed ourselves to be Christians.

Q. 10.-Tell me what engagement we made when we were baptised.

A. We engaged "To confess the faith of Christ crucified, and manfully to fight under his banner against sin, the world, and the devil; and to continue Christ's faithful soldier and ser

vant unto our life's end.” See the Baptismal

service.

* Q 11.-How does this imply that we have acknowledged Christ to be our Lord?

A. Because we engage in these words to submit to him, and to obey him, as soldiers submit to their general, which evidently implics that we engage to serve him as our Lord and

Master.

Q. 12-Is it not our bounden duty then to do the will of Christ?

-

A. Certainly it is; as he himself hath spoKen,

Why call ye me Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?" Lu, 6. 46.

Q. 13. Do we naturally take pleasure in doing the will of Christ ?

A. By no means; we naturally do our own will, and instead of doing all things in order to please God, we rather seck in all things to serve and please ourselves.

Q. 14. How may we be delivered from this

state, and enabled to serve our Lord Jesus Christ in truth?

A. By the grace of God vouchsafed unto us through Jesus Christ, "Who died for all, that they who live, should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him that died, for them and rose again." 2d Cor. 5. 15.

* Q. 15. Give me a fourth reason, why Jesus Christ is our Lord?

A-He is our Lord, FOURTHLY, because he hath redeemed us from the curse of God's law', and conquered our spiritual enemies.

Q. 16-What price did he pay for our redemption ?

A. The price of his own blood. "Ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, but with the precious blood of 1st Pet. 1. 18, 19.

Through death he destroyed him that hath the power of death, that is, the devil." Heb. 2. 14.

Q. 18. And does he not also deliver us from

the bondage of Satan, by his Holy Spirit?

A. Yes; he hath ascended up on high, and received for us the gift of the Holy Spirit, whereby we are delivered from the power of our sins and enabled to serve God,

Q. 19-We should be inexcusable indeed then, if after such mercies we do not submit to Christ as our Lord.

A. We certainly should; as the apostle well reminds us. "Ye are not your own; for

ye are bought with

God in your bodies

are God's."

Q. 1.- What do we learn from the words," He was conceived by the Holy Ghost?"

A. Yes; For such an high priest becime us, who is holy, separate from sinners."

Heb. 8. 26.

Q..3.-What do we learn from the words Burn of the Virgin Mary ?”

A. We learn that he was truly man, being born of a woman; and so was in all points like one of us, only without sin.

Q 4-Was it necessary that Christ should be truly man?

A. Yes; forasmuch as the children are "partakers of flesh and blood, he also him"self took part of the same. In all things

"it behoved him to be made like unto his "brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful High Priest," Heb. 2. 14, 17.

Q. 5.-Was it not a great sign of the love of Christ for us sinners, that he should condescend to take upon him our nature?

A. It was a very great sign of his love, and such as we cannot fully understand.

Q6. Why cannot we fully understand it? A. Because, as we cannot perfectly conceive of the Glory of the Son of God, it is impossi ble we should perfectly conceive of his condescension in becoming a child of man.

Q. 7.-Explain this a little more.
