Sublimer sweets than nature krows
Invite the longing taste.

Prophecy and Inspiration.

'T WAS by an order from the Lord, The ancient prophets spoke his word, His spirit did their tongues inspire,

And warmed their hearts with heavenly fire

2 Great God! mine eyes with pleasure look
On the dear volume of thy book;
There my Redeemer's face I see,
And read his name who died for me.

3 Let the false raptures of the mind
Be lost, and vanish in the wind;
Here I can fix my hope secure;
This is thy word, and must endure.

The Holy Scriptures.

1 LADEN with guilt, and full of fears,
I fly to thee, my Lord!

And not a glimpse of hope appears.
But in thy written word.

2 The volume of my Father's grace
Does all my grief assuage;
Here I behold my Saviour's face,
Almost in every page.

3 Here, consecrated water flows,
To quench my thirst of sin;
Here, the fair tree of knowledge grows,
No danger dwells therein.

This is the judge that ends the stris
Where wit and reason fail;-
My guide to everlasting life,
Through all this gloomy vale.

5 Oh! may thy counsels, mighty God
My roving feet command;
Nor I forsake the happy road
That leads to thy right hand.

A Saviour seen in the Scriptures.
1 NOW let my soul, eternal King!
To thee its grateful tribute bring;
My knee, with humble homɛge, bow,
My tongue perform its solemn vow.

2 All nature sings thy boundless love,
In worlds below, and worlds above;
But, in thy blessed word, I trace
Diviner wonders of thy grace.

3 There, what delightful truths I read!
There, I behold the Saviour bleed :
His name salutes my listening ear,
Revives my heart, and checks my fear.
4 There Jesus bids my sorrows cease,
And gives my lab'ring conscience peace;
Raises my grateful passions high,
And points to mansions in the sky.

5 For love like this, Oh! let my song,
Through endless years, thy praise prolong;
Let distant ciimes thy name adore,
Till time and nature are no more.

Revelation welcomed.

1 HAIL, sacred truth! whose piercing rays
Dispel the shades of night;
Diffusing, o'er the mental worlu,
The healing beams of light.

2 Jesus! thy word, with friendly aid,
Restores our wandering feet;
Converts the sorrows of the mind
To joys divinely sweet.

3 Oh! send thy light and truth abroad,
In all their radiant blaze:

ம்.

And bid th' admiring world adore
The glories of thy grace.

The Blessings of the new Covenant
I GOD, in the Gospel of his Son,
Makes his eternal counsels known;
Where love in all its glory shines,
And truth is drawn in fairest lines.
2 Here, sinners of an humble frame
May taste his grace, and learn his name,
May read in characters of blood,

The wisdom, power and grace of God. 3 Here, faith reveals, to mortal eyes, A brighter world beyond the skies; Here, shines the light which guides our way From earth to realms of endless day
