Offices of Christ.

1. JOIN all the glorious names
Of wisdom, love, and power,
That ever mortals knew,

Or angels ever bore:

All are too mean to speak his worth
Too mean to set the Saviour forth.

2. Jesus, our great High Priest,
Has shed his blood and died;
Our guilty conscience needs
No sacrifice beside;

His precious blood did once atone,
And now it pleads before the throne.

3. O, thou almighty Lord,

Our Conqueror and our King,
Thy sceptre and thy sword,

Thy reigning grace, we sing:

Thine is the power; O, make us sit,
In willing bonds, beneath thy feet.

H. M.

Christ, our Shepherd and High Priest.

1. I LOVE my Shepherd's voice;
His watchful eyes shall keep
My wandering soul among

The thousands of his sheep;

He feeds his flocks, he calls their names;
His bosom bears the tender lambs.

2. Jesus, my great High Priest,
Offered his blood and died;

My guilty conscience seeks
No sacrifice beside:

His powerful blood did once atone,
And now it pleads before the throne.

3. Now let my soul arise,

And tread the Tempter down;
My Captain leads me forth
To conquest and a crown:

A feeble saint shall win the day,
Though death and hell obstruct the way.

Christ, our Hope.

[blocks in formation]

Pleading the Promise of the Spirit.

1. O THOU that hearest prayer,
Attend our humble cry;

And let thy servants share

Thy blessing from on high:
We plead the promise of thy word;
Grant us thy Holy Spirit, Lord.

2. Our heavenly Father, thou;
We, children of thy grace:
O, let thy Spirit now

Descend and fill the place:

So shall we feel the heavenly flame,
And all unite to praise thy name.

3. O, may that sacred fire,
Descending from above,
Our languid hearts inspire
With fervent zeal and love;

Enlighten our beclouded eyes,

And teach our grovelling souls to rise.

Glories of God in Redemption.

1. FATHER, how wide thy glory shines!
How high thy wonders rise!

Known through the earth by thousand signs,
By thousands through the skies.

2. But when we view thy strange design
To save rebellious worms,
Where vengeance and compassion join
In their divinest forms;—

3. Here the whole Deity is known;
Nor dares a creature guess-
Which of the glories brightest shone-
The justice or the grace.

4. Now the full glories of the Lamb
Adorn the heavenly plains;
Bright seraphs learn Immanuel's name,
And try their choicest strains.

5. O, may I bear some humble part
In that immortal song!

Wonder and joy shall tune my heart,
And love command my tongue.

God's Eternal Dominion.

1. GREAT God! how infinite art thou!
What worthless worms are we!
Let the whole race of creatures bow,
And pay their praise to thee.

2. Thy throne eternal ages stood,
Ere seas or stars were made:
Thou art the ever-living God,
Were all the nations dead.

3. Nature and time quite naked lie,
To thine immense survey,-
From the formation of the sky,
To the great, burning day.

4. Eternity, with all its years,

Stands present in thy view;

To thee there's nothing old appears-
Great God, there's nothing new.
