The Heart Is Right

WHEN THE STOMACH IS RIGHT

-and when the heart is right there is smooth sailing on the Sea of Matrimony. Nuptial ardor is cooled and domestic life embittered when a poor digestion sends thin and impoverished blood through the body.

¶ Life is sweetened, and the jarring discords of conflicting temperaments are mollified by SHREDDED WHEAT because it is easily digested and has in it the elements for making red blood and sound tissue.

¶ It is something to lean upon when cooks fail and servants fail -a boon to young housekeepers.

SHREDDED WHEAT BISCUIT is delicious for breakfast with milk or cream.

TRISCUIT is the same as the Biscuit except that it is compressed into a wafer and is used as a toast in place of white flour bread. Both the Biscuit and Triscuit should be heated in oven to restore crispness and flavor.

Automatic Card

THE manufacture of penny-in-the-slot

machines has been one of slow but

continual improvement since the original scale made its appearance twenty years ago. The increasing popularity of these machines has brought forth many well

Inside are twenty type wheels, each having the entire alphabet on its periphery. Each key is movable longitudinally in a slot, and is connected with a corresponding type wheel. Opposite each solo on the keyboard, is also the entire alphabet. To "set up" your name for printing, just pull out the keys in regular order to the letters of your name. On turning the handle the type wheels are locked together, aligning the type perfectly; the ink table is revolved and the type inked; the cardboard is fed from a roll, printed, cut into cards, and delivered-all for one cent.

developed devices. One of the latest is a card printer that prints one's name on five cards for one cent. Most slot machines vend a manufactured article. The card printer makes the article vended.

To print a card, nine simple mechanical movements are required. All are in plain view of the operator, thus giving an entertaining and educational value to the device. Outside of the case is a keyboard with twenty keys numbered 1 to 20.

This Book

was read by more people during the past month than any other single book published this season.

It is working a revolution in man's comfort and safety.

It is, so far as we know, the first scientific text-book ever written on the subject of the care of the face as applied to shaving, and is worth its weight in gold to any man who doesn't wear a beard. It would be worth a great deal to him, too, if he only knew it.

Drawing Paper Fast

ener

AN improved fastener for attaching paper to a drawing board has lately been patented by an ingenious inventor.

A board is pierced, as indicated in the
illustration, to receive a metal bolt or pin,
topped with a plate. At its base the pin is

threaded. A spiral spring, enclosing the
pin, is inserted between the plate and a
thumb-nut. The purpose of the thumb-
nut is to vary the tension of the spring.
The plate is raised by forcing the spring,
through the medium of the nut, against
it. The paper may then be inserted, and
the plate, lowered to its former position,
acts as a firm but gentle fastener.

AMERICAN SCHOOL OKRESPONDENCE

A Popular Song in Esperanto
THAT new universal language, Esperanto, is
getting a firm grip on humanity in all parts
of the world. Some readers may not know
what it looks like and sounds like. The fol-
lowing translation of the chorus of "Everybody
Works But Father" may enlighten them:
"Cui labores sed patro

Li sidas cirkau vio tago
Kun lia piedoj sur des fijaro-loco.
Fumiant lia argila pipo,

Tiel faras filino Anne.
Cio laboras en mia domo

THE GEM JUNIOR

[graphic][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small][subsumed][subsumed][subsumed][subsumed][merged small][merged small][merged small][merged small]

When the Gem junior with seven exceptionally high-grade, wonderfully fine-edged blades can be bought for $1.00-the time-and-money cost of four shaves, how can you afford to be without it? Why continue the risk and inconvenience of the barber-shop habit?

GEM JUNIOR is our latest product of a quarter century's experience in the manufacture of safety razors, and like all the previous products of this company, it is a step in advance of all competitors.

The secret of its supremacy lies not alone in the patented blade holder and guard that provides absolute protection against cutting the face, but especially in the blades, made of special steel selected by razor experts, and tempered by our own secret process. They are so hard-the edge so keen-you can use them again and again before dulling. You may resharpen them, the same as any other if desired, by using the sharpening handle, or exchange for seven new keen blades for 25c.
